Happy Mother’s Day to all you mamas today!

When I was younger, still living at my home with my mom and dad, I wrote Mom a poem for Mother’s Day one year. I bet she still has it tucked away somewhere. I wanted her to know that I appreciated her and that I noticed all she did for me.

In honor of my mom today I am rewriting it in my little girl voice, then my adult voice. You may find that these words describe your mom, too.

My Mother’s Hands

My mother’s hands, young, gentle, and strong

Hold my tiny body close, protect me from wrong.

My mother’s hands provide good food to eat,

Satisfy my thirst, shelter me from the heat.

My mother’s hands guide as I try to walk,

She listens intently when I try to talk.

My mother’s hands work hard every day

To care for my needs while I run and play.

My mother’s hands teach me to sew;

I made my own clothes and loved them so.

My mother’s hands bring my lunch to my school,

How often I’d forget to keep that rule!

My mother’s hands comfort me at night,

Singing sweet songs, now I can sleep tight.

My mother’s hands let go in stages,

Through high school, college – all of my ages;

My mother’s hands on my wedding day,

Hugged me close, released me – and prayed

That I’d become the woman she believed

I was destined to be, fearless and free.

My mother’s hands now worn with time.

Still beautiful to me, not so different from mine!

I thank God for my mother’s hands

Her heart, her life – I’m her biggest fan!

I love you Mom!

And Happy Mother’s Day to all of you!

❤️ Terri
